Liberty Head type Gold $2.50, $5, and $10 were issued from the late 1830's, with $20 beginning production in 1850 until 1907/1908.

President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt initiated a program of artistic innovation with U.S. Gold coins in 1907, commissioning world famous American sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens to re-design the gold $10 "Eagle" and $20 "Double-Eagle" denominations. Saint-Gaudens is most famous for his Standing Liberty/Flying Eagle $20 design issued 1907-1933, which bears his name. Bella Lyon-Pratt created the unique incused bas-relief Indian-Head design utilized on $2.50 and $5 gold coin 1908-1929.
