Issued under the authority of the British Crown, Gold Sovereign coins have been issued from mints around the world: London (England), Ottowa (Canada), Sydney, Melbourne & Perth (Australia), Bombay (India), and Pretoria (South Africa).
With a face value of 20 Shillings (One Pound Sterling), and a fineness of 91.67% pure gold, the Gold Sovereign has been in production since 1817. Each coin contains .2354 troy ounces of pure gold.
The obverse design features the issuing monarch's portrait, with an image of Saint George slaying a dragon on the reverse with the date below.
